You should apply well in advance of your travel time. The department does not recommend that you purchase flight tickets to Australia before the visa application is finalised.
It is important that you upload all supporting documents with your application at the time of lodgement to avoid any delays with the processing of your application. Please ensure that in all cases you submit high quality colour scans of the original documents. For further information about attaching documents online, please click here.
Use the checklist below to make sure your application is complete:
- Copy of passport bio-data page;
- One recent passport sized photograph;
- Statement from employer stating job title and length of service. If the employer is responsible for the costs of the trip, this should be declared in this statement, highlighting the financial support provided, purpose of the trip and the length of stay of the applicant;
- Evidence of financial capacity or access to available financial resources if the applicant is meeting his/her own costs. Proof of financial capacity may include:
- current account, savings or investment bank statements for the last three months;
- current income tax return;
- last three payslips.
- Copy of itinerary or flight bookings;
- If you are attending meetings, conferences or seminars, you must present an invitation letter or event registration from the company or institution in Australia; and
- Evidence of valid permanent visa (required if the applicant is not a citizen of the country where the application is submitted).
The DIBP Office of the Australian Embassy in Brasilia may request additional documents not mentioned above, as well as original documents.
Depending on your age (aged 75 years and older), period of stay requested and the purpose of the trip, you might be required to undergo health examinations with a panel doctor as part of the visa application process. For more information about the health requirements, please click here.
