You should apply well in advance of your travel time. The department does not recommend that you purchase flight tickets to Australia before the visa application is finalised.
It is important that you upload all supporting documents with your application at the time of lodgement to avoid any delays with the processing of your application. Use the checklist below to make sure your application is complete:
- Copy of passport bio-data page;
- One recent passport sized photograph
- Letter from the employer stating the position, time of service, salary and vacation period or social contract of the company, if it is a partner;
- Proof of enrollment at the school or university;
- Copy of itinerary or booking of tickets;
- Invitation letter from a relative or friend in Australia (in the form of a Statutory Declaration);
- Evidence of valid permanent visa (required if the applicant is not a citizen of the country where the application is submitted); and
- Evidence of financial capacity or access to available financial resources of the applicant or the person providing financial support. If the applicant receives financial support, he/she must also present a statement with a signature confirming the person's willingness to pay for the trip. Proof of financial capacity may include but is not limited to:
- last three payslips;
- current income tax return;
- current account bank statements or fixed income investments for the last three months.
- For applicants under the age of 18 years
- copy of birth certificate;
- evidence that every person with a legal right to decide where you live consents to your travel to Australia. If one or both parents are not coming with you, provide:
- a statutory declaration giving their permission; or
- Form 1229 Consent form to grant an Australian visa to a child under the age of 18 years
If you use this form, you will have to attach a copy of your parent’s or guardian’s government-issued identification document (such as a passport or drivers licence) with their photograph and their signature.
- if you will stay in Australia with someone other than a parent, legal guardian or relative: a declaration signed by the person who will be responsible for you in Australia: Form 1257 Undertaking declaration
- Evidence of enrolment at school, college or university.
The Home Affairs Office of the Australian Embassy in Brasilia may request additional documents not mentioned above, as well as original documents.
